Hello! I am Mary Gomes and I am entering my 14th year teaching. I am a Clarksburg resident and was born and raised in the Sacramento area. I attended elementary through high school in Fair Oaks/Orangevale and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona in Tucson.
After graduating, I moved back to Orangevale and began my teaching career at my old elementary school teaching 2nd grade in the classroom where I was a 2nd grader myself. After two years in San Juan Unified School district, I took a job in Rocklin Unified to work with a special population of gifted students in a GATE magnet program. I spent 7 years teaching there before moving into Elk Grove Unified to be closer to home. During the last 5 years in Elk Grove I have taught 5th grade and have grown to love the students and curriculum.
When I’m not teaching I am a busy wife and mom. My husband teaches high school history in Elk Grove and coaches football at American River College. We spend a lot of family time on the football field in the fall! Our two sons, Jackson and AJ will be joining me at DECS in 2nd grade and kindergarten. They are busy with all things sports and music related. Some of my favorite things are coffee, colored pens, fun bags and jewelry, color coding and organization. I also love finding new ways to be creative in the classroom with projects and technology. I cannot wait to join my home community and look forward to an amazing year at DECS!
