Hi! My name is Sara Ruiz and I am very excited to be working at DECS as a 2nd grade teacher! As a Delta native, it is great to be working in the same district that had raised me!
I attended University of the Pacific, where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
Although I have lived in Sacramento all my life, I am a product of the River Delta. I attended Bates Elementary School in Courtland for my Kindergarten through 8th grade years. Afterwards, I became a student of Delta High School in Clarksburg for my 9th to 12th grade years. Since my sophomore year of high school, I have also worked at the Courtland Market with my family which has helped further strengthen my connections to the River Delta community.
As I embark on my 3rd year of teaching and second year at DECS, I have learned to differentiate my lessons to fit the needs of all student and incorporating GLAD strategies to enhance the curriculum. This has helped me to develop my teaching styles and techniques to enhance student motivation, achieve maximum student success and help students develop a love of learning. Additionally, I have had multiple experiences with teaching in 2nd and 6th grades.
I am determined and passionate about teaching and consider it to be my calling. I love the feeling of helping students learn concepts that they will continue to use the rest of their lives. Building a foundation for learning and success are the core of teaching. Leading students in the right direction in life and giving them those lifelong skills is what I wanted to do in the past, present and future.
Giving back to the community that raised and educated me is another one of my lifelong goals. Being a 2nd grade teacher at Delta Elementary Charter School, I will implement the school’s motto of “Growing Extraordinary Leaders and Scholars” in my classroom. My goal is to stress that college is a possibility for everyone, no matter what background or obstacles they have to overcome. I hope to inspire students to follow their hearts and dreams and to never give up. I want to become a positive role model for children and families in the community. It is my aspiration to motivate all students and to exemplify how hard work and determination can lead to success and happiness.
Some of my hobbies include playing volleyball and soccer, going to the beach and listening to all types of music. I also love spending quality time with my family and friends.
This is going to be a fantastic year in 2nd grade!
