Update from Superintendent Lewis

Update from Superintendent Lewis: March 26, 2020

Dear River Charter Schools Families,

As educators, we have dedicated ourselves to our school communities.  Our current health crisis is impacting all of us and we remain committed to you.  Yesterday we conducted our first River Charter Schools staff meeting via video conferencing and I can assure you, that our team remains focused on you and your children.  More importantly, we all miss you!

I am fortunate that our State, County and the California Charter School Association is collaborating around a common goal to answer the questions that face our entire country.  In the past week, I have participated in conference calls with the Association of California School Administrators, the County Office of Education (Yolo and Sacramento), the Governor’s Office and Public Health officials.  Although we don’t have an answer to when our schools will reopen, we are moving forward to set a plan around what our distance learning will look like at River Charter Schools.  I can promise that we will only open our schools after we have received guidance from public health officials.  We will not put our community at risk.

Principal Belair, Principal Migliaccio and Vice Principal Andrews meet with me regularly and are creating guidelines and links for our students to ensure learning continues.  We must ensure equity and access for all our families and you will continue to receive messages from your site administration and teachers asking about your level of access to online resources.  This information is critical so we can work with our business partners and community to address the need for connectivity for all our students.  What will be provided to you promises to be engaging, interactive and creative so that our students continue to learn and grow as “leaders and scholars”.

REMINDER:  SOCIAL DISTANCING IS NOT DISCONNECTING

Stay connected with us. We will be providing updates as they happen through my regular Superintendent Messages. Additionally, families will receive regular communication and updates through our normal Site channels.  Our school administration will also be providing regular updates.  Continue to review our websites and Facebook pages (and all site communication channels).

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we work together to address your questions.

Steve Lewis, Superintendent
