Hi! My name is Sara Ruiz and I am very excited to be working at DECS as a 2nd grade teacher! As a Delta native, it is great to be working in the same district that had raised me!
I attended University of the Pacific, where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
Although I have lived in Sacramento all my life, I am a product of the River Delta as I attended elementary and high school within the district. I have also worked at the Courtland Market with my family which has helped further strengthen my connections to the River Delta community.
As I embark on my ninth year of teaching and eighth year at DECS, I have learned to differentiate my lessons to fit the needs of all students and incorporating GLAD strategies to enhance the curriculum. This has helped me to develop my teaching styles and techniques to enhance student motivation, achieve maximum student success, and help students develop a love of learning.
I am determined and passionate about teaching and consider it to be my calling. I aspire to help students learn concepts and lifelong skills that they will continue to use the rest of their lives. Building this foundation for learning and success are the core of teaching and it is my purpose for being an educator.
Giving back to the community that raised and educated me is another one of my lifelong goals. Being a 2nd grade teacher at Delta Elementary Charter School, I implement the school’s motto of “Growing Extraordinary Leaders and Scholars” in my classroom. My goal is to stress that college is a possibility for everyone, no matter what background or obstacles they have to overcome. I hope to inspire students to follow their hearts and dreams and to never give up. I want to become a positive role model for children and families in the community. It is my aspiration to motivate all students and to exemplify how hard work and determination can lead to success and happiness.
Some of my hobbies include playing volleyball and soccer, watching Sacramento Republic FC and Sacramento Kings games, going to the beach, and listening to all types of music. I also love spending quality time with my family and friends.
This is going to be a fantastic year in 2nd grade!
