Roxanne Barnes

Hi! My name is Roxanne Barnes. I immediately fell in love with Clarksburg and Delta Charter as soon as I turned onto River Road. It felt so much like home that I couldn’t imagine teaching anywhere else! I grew up in Redding, CA in a neighborhood where my childhood consisted of playing in the pool and sleepovers outside on the trampoline with my best friends (still friends 21 years and counting!). I was raised by a pharmacist and a registered nurse who are the most supportive and amazing parents I could have asked for. I am also blessed with an older sister who always makes me laugh and gives the best advice.

For my first two years of college, I attended University of California, Santa Barbara where I lived in paradise before falling in love with an undergraduate course in nutrition. I transferred to UC Davis to pursue my passion and received my Bachelors of Science in Clinical Nutrition in June, 2014. To gain experience to apply for a dietetic internship, I started to work as a Nutrition Educator in October 2014 within Tehama County, employed by the UC Davis Cooperative Extension Program. This outreach position was intended for the low-income populations in the county where I provided nutrition, gardening, and physical activity education in schools and community centers. I worked with 5 community centers as well as 13 elementary and pre-schools; combined, this involved teaching in over 70 classrooms, ages 3 to 75 (or older!). I loved my job! Originally, I thought this enjoyment stemmed from nutrition. However, when June of 2015 hit, I wasn’t as happy. How did this happen?! I realized that the reason was…Summer! I was not in the classroom teaching! That night, I started my research on teaching credential programs.

I received my Multiple-Subject teaching credential from UC Davis in June, 2017. I currently live in the Land Park area off Freeport in Sacramento…right in between Land Park and the ever so delicious Dad’s Kitchen! I enjoy gardening, playing board games with friends, cooking, and exploring the never-ending list of craft breweries that Sacramento offers! I will be finishing my Masters (MA) in Education from UC Davis this year and hope to bring the most recent, research-based pedagogy to the Clarksburg community.
