My name is Jonathan Dressler and I am super excited to be a part of the DECS family as the music director for K-6 grade! I grew up here in Sacramento before attending Concordia University in Portland, OR as an education major before transferring and earning my bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis in vocal performance from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA. I have spent 13 years teaching music (primarily bands and choirs) to 4th through 12th grade students at private schools in the area with my last nine years of teaching at Bradshaw Christian School. I have taught everything from concert band, jazz band, honor bands, rock and/or worship teams, STOMP-style percussion groups, marching and pep band to groups like elementary, middle school and high school choirs, show choirs, honor choirs and was the music director for two large-scale school musicals including Wizard of Oz and Beauty and the Beast.
My wife, Jennie and I have been married for 14 years and we have two wonderful children: Jacob-12 and Kaiya-10. We have three cats: Maestro, Mrs. Pickles, and Sammy. When I’m not teaching music you can find me at church involved with worship teams and playing in the church orchestra, helping out with my kids’ swim team, or developing freshwater aquariums (aquascaping is my favorite hobby). I love thrill rides and theme parks and have even gone skydiving! I enjoy life’s adventures and am thrilled for the new adventure of teaching music here at DECS!
